Design Engineer - HV

Department: juwi Renewable Energy Pty Ltd 

Title of position: Design Engineer - HV

Objectives: As Design Engineer you will be part of the juwi engineering team, supporting the business team with engineering analysis, design, modelling, costing and commissioning.

Start date: As soon as possible

Location: Perth/ Brisbane

Primary responsibilities:

  • Preparation of SLDs, layout and sections for AIS and GIS substation
  • Detailed substation design standard IEC and AS/NZ standard
  • Illumination calculation and preparation of Illumination Layout (Indoor & Outdoor) & conduit layout drawings for Control Room, GIS Hall etc.
  • Earthing calculation and designing of earth-mat layout
  • Preparation of Control room building Layout & Cable Routing Layout
  • Lightning Protection calculation and preparation of Lightning Protection Layout
  • Cable Sizing and Preparation of Outdoor & Indoor Cable Trenches
  • Transformer & DG Sizing Calculations
  • Preparation of LV SLD(415V System) and LT Switchgear Room Layout
  • Battery sizing
  • Sag and Tension calculation
  • Bus bar sizing (Flexible & Rigid Bus) calculation
  • Short circuit force (Strung Bus & Rigid Bus) calculation
  • Conducting discussions, involved in proper co-ordination and following-up with customers for approval of documents
  • Construction support activities, supervising documents and forwarding all approved documents to site for execution and taking remedial actions if required
  • Maintaining Drawing/Design/Submission/Approval Status of various projects for later monitoring and checking
  • Possess in-depth knowledge in the area of gathering requirements and documentation and supporting of customized solutions
  • Reviewing of technical aspects (OGA & GTP) of various equipment
  • Coordination with different equipment vendors, technical & commercial evaluation of the offer received and finalization of the vendor
  • Bill of quantity estimation & technical support for tendering
  • Attending pre-bid meeting with the client for technical discussion & scope clarity
  • Offer validation for various equipment & products for finalization of tender documents
  • Conducting site surveys and preparing engineering documents & BOQ for Tendering
  • Engineering coordination with Civil, Structure & Control, Protection & Automation team


Candidate requirements

juwi is looking for the following attributes: 

  • Graduate in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • 5 to 8 years of work experience with Design Department
  • Good understanding of load flow study, short circuit study, insulation co-ordination study, HV and EHV electrical design, substation design, protection design, earthing design etc.
  • Understand Australian & Vietnam grid code, electrical drawing and power flow
  • Proficient in ACAD, ETAP, MS office tools
  • Good oral and written communication in English

Procurement & Logistics Manager


  • Identify cost-quality optimized suppliers for wind and solar projects for mechanical, electrical and civil works and be key relationship manager for such
  • Drive operational excellence along the supply chain for internal and external procurement related matters

Location: Brisbane/Australia

Primary responsibilities:

  • Reporting to Head of Sales and Procurement APAC
  • Implement and manage procurement, supply chain and logistics strategy and process for quotations and ordering process
  • Support the sales team by getting mechanical, electrical and civil supplier/ subcontractors’/ consultants’ quotes for wind and solar project in time and quality required
  • Ensure cost-quality optimized equipment and services are procured for projects, on suitable delivery terms and to meet project timescales
  • Lead the negotiation of contract terms and pricing with both internal (sales / operations) and external contacts, and prepare purchase orders, agreements and contracts related agreements; expediting; monitoring compliance and performance
  • Ensure EPCM contract risk is transferred through back to back conditions
  • Set up and maintain a project budget & cost-reporting system covering all procured equipment and services projects (in conjunction with Project Manager and Finance team)
  • Seek, engage and evaluate appropriate suppliers for project-related equipment and services on technical and commercial evaluation criteria to maintain database
  • Support the Project Manager in handling of supplier/ subcontractor / consultants’ variations, change orders etc.
  • Identify, engage and negotiate with local logistics service providers to achieve the most optimized clearing and forwarding / freight costs for offshore supplies (from AU port to site) and coordinate with them to ensure timely receipt at site.
  • Clarification of market conditions relating to inter alia forex, clearing, duties, anti-dumping, credit limits, credit protection framework and ensure that associated time and cost risk is quantified 
  • Monitor market for pricing trends, changes, new entrants etc.
  • Work in conjunction with the juwi APAC procurement organization to utilize global supplier frameworks and develop a longer-term procurement strategy

Candidate requirements: Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes

juwi is looking for the following attributes: 

  • Commerce degree/ related qualification
  • At least 10 years’ experience in procurement, commercial, supply chain, logistics management in construction, electrical or energy infrastructure project environment
  • Proficient in negotiating, drafting and administering standard form or proprietary contracts
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written in order to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders within a matrix organization
  • Strong negotiation skills and successful at relationship building across a broad range of levels
  • Team player with exceptional communication skills, a self-starter with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for renewable energies
  • Ability to work autonomously and efficiently under pressure, with the ability to prioritize and organize own work load including flexibility in working hours as projects may require
  • Experience working in an international matrix organizational structure
  • Renewable energy experience for PV and Wind
  • Experience in EPC/ EPCM environment
  • Demonstrated network of contacts in the renewable industry would be an advantageous.
