Hybrid Engineer

About the role

juwi is looking for an individual experienced in the solar/wind hybrid industry to be responsible for the engineering and development (technical) of our pipeline of large-scale hybrid projects. The primary focus will be on projects in Australia / Asia Pacific for mine sites and other off-grid energy users, with a secondary function being the collaboration and support for international projects with other juwi subsidiaries. The individual will also have the opportunity to obtain knowledge from the DeGrussa project and draw on juwi's extensive international experience in the market. The individual will be based in juwi's Brisbane office with site visits and international travel being required from time to time. All applicants must have the right to work in Australia.

Role description

The key roles for the hybrid engineer will be a mixture of project development / sales, as well as project delivery, as outlined below:

Project Development:

•    Develop and manage the early engineering process for hybrid projects (~1MWp to ~100MWp + Batteries) including hybrid micro-grid integration and hybrid modelling including HOMER Pro;
•    Technical assessment of self-developed or tender project requirements;
•    Assessment and review of RfP/tender documentation;
•    Develop technical offering for bids/proposals;
•    Site technical assessments and feasibility studies;
•    Utilise multiple internal and external resources to achieve the clients development requirements;
•    Support Project Manager with cost calculation and bill of quantity development;

Project Delivery:

•    Develop site specific technical specification for key solar/wind hybrid equipment and systems;
•    Solar/wind hybrid specific project engineering and design;
•    Support international projects remotely with design assessments and recommendations.

General:

•    Market research and product screening;
•    Collaboration with international colleagues on solar/wind hybrid design and market progress;
•    Research and development;
•    Develop engineering reports from available project data;
•    Review and improve juwi hybrid processes and documentation;
•    Maintain understanding of Australian Standards and industry technical requirements/guidelines relating to solar/wind hybrid systems.

Candidate requirements

juwi is looking for the following attributes:
•    Electrical engineering degree (or similar);
•    Minimum 5 years’ experience in solar or wind hybrid engineering design and/or development;
•    Strong understanding of solar or wind hybrid components, capabilities and the market;
•    Ability to work within a local and international design team;
•    Strong understanding and skills of design programs/systems (CAD, Homer, PVSyst, Windpro, Wasp Matlab etc);
•    Strong understanding and skills of company tools (MS Office with advanced excel skills etc.);
•    Understanding of the the relationship between technical and commercial project requirements;
•    Willing to travel as required within Australia, with occasional international travel.

O&M Project Engineer

Department: juwi Renewable Energy Pty Ltd - Operations and Maintenance

Internal Interfaces: Project Managers, O&M Engineers, International Operations Manager, Managing Director

Working hours: 40 hours a week

Location: Brisbane

Remuneration: Base salary with performance bonus

Educational Qualification: Electrical license and/or engineering degree (Electrical or Mechanical based)

Experience in O&M of Power plant: 5 years electrical construction or electrical maintenance in a management role

Experience in Solar Construction OR O&M: 3 years

Work Experience: ≥ 2 years Mining electrical construction or Mining electrical maintenance in a management role

Languages: English

Responsibilities:

The O&M Engineer will work directly with the international O&M team and local subsidiary to manage day-to-day O&M activities, track portfolio performance, drive process improvement and liaising with customers, suppliers and subcontractors.
The primary juwi site under Operation and Maintenance is a 10.6MW solar PV + 6MW battery facility connected to a 19MW diesel power station (currently the world’s largest off-grid solar PV system), located 150km North of Meekatharra, Western Australia.

Qualifications / Experience:

  • O&M Engineering in a service-based industry (preferred)

  • Electrical license and/or engineering degree (Electrical or Mechanical based)

  • Understanding and/or management of basic contracts

  • Basic understanding of case management systems and ability to log detailed case and maintenance data

  • Ability to leverage many internal and external resources in order to achieve project requirements

  • Willingness to work under the international and/or local O&M team and accept direction when resolving service issues and maintenance requirements

  • Strong computer skills to operate quickly and efficiently using manufacturer's utility programs, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, DWG Viewer

  • Strong PLC, SCADA and manufacturer's utility programs back ground

  • Teamwork - ability to work with a team of O&M professionals to solve problems quickly and efficiently

  • Ability to work with a team of O&M professionals to solve problems quickly and efficiently

  • Ability to read, understand electrical, civil and structural plans

  • Analytical - must be able to analyze problem scenarios and make quick, intelligent decisions

  • Understanding of logistics and operations in a service environment

  • Positive 'can-do' attitude

  • Hands on Experience in CMMS or other maintenance software

  • Should have knowledge of reading SLD/Drawings/Specifications, Handling different electrical & electronic measuring instruments

  • Should have knowledge of electrical & electronic parts, bus system, inverter system, understanding and troubleshooting of electrical circuits

Position duties include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as traditional regional O&M Engineer for juwi Australia
  • Provide support to O&M staff for high priority and work overflow issues
  • Stay actively engaged in the optimization of KWH output across the entire juwi O&M portfolio
  • Identify customer needs that can be met with juwi services and work with the business development team to make these sales
  • Provide Value Added Consulting to clients including: Spare parts plans, equipment upgrades, additional services, modelling assessments
  • Give customers an excellent customer experience through world class project management
  • Compile Daily and Monthly reports for O&M and PPA to Operations Director and client
  • Communicate scheduling for maintenance activities to customers, including proactively communicating and approving changes to the agreed upon maintenance schedule
  • Identify, develop and implement short & long-term strategies which enhance the profitability, productivity and efficiency of the Service infrastructure for delivery of support services.
  • Initiating process to ensure warranty of the plant equipments are intact.
  • Co-coordinating with the component suppliers for warranty claims issues.
  • Focusing on predictive maintenance activities.
  • Continuously evolve the process for reducing the MTTR and MTBF
  • Quality System maintaining/ implementation for O&M activities
