Global Head of Hybrid

Objectives

We are looking for an exceptional leader to expand our business in the Hybrid Segment. Key market segments are hybrid power solutions for the mining industry and other larger energy off-takers with industrial or agricultural background.  Hybrid solutions can be off-grid or on-grid.  

This role will be based at one of our international subsidiaries, namely Australia (Perth or Brisbane) or South Africa (Cape Town or Johannesburg).  The location of the incumbent will be decided based on applications received.

The incumbent will be required to travel extensively, mainly in Australia, Africa (various countries), Head Office in Germany plus additional travel globally. Coming from a power for mining industry or pure mining industry, the incumbent will have had previous senior leadership role/s in mining as well as a strong Business Development and sales track record.  The ability to network to mines and power mines, previous P&L responsibility background as well as international and intercultural business track record are important criteria for this role.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow juwi’s global hybrid business
  • Profit and loss responsibility of the global hybrid business
  • Lead the global hybrid team
  • Lead business development and sales for hybrid projects globally
  • Implement and further develop the global hybrid business strategy. Lead, refine and constantly improve commercial and legal offerings

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes


The ideal candidate will have:

  • 10 years work experience in the mining or large remote power supply sector
  • 3 years of profit and loss responsibility
  • Proven track record of establishing or growing international business, ideally in mining or power industry
  • 3 years managing international business, ideally in mining or power industry
  • Track record in closure of contracts in mining or large remote power supply projects
  • Excellent team player and –manager across several locations and cultures

Project Engineer - Australia

With an annual turnover of over more than 1 Billion AUD and installed capacity in excess of 5 GW across 25 countries, juwi is one of the world’s leading companies in the renewable energy sector. The Australian subsidiary has already completed a 10.6MWp solar PV + 6MW battery system on a remote mine in Western Australia, making it the world’s largest off-grid system. Job Title: Project Engineer
Location: Brisbane

Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for the successful delivery of free field solar PV systems. He/she will be responsible for project engineering deliverables as follows:

  • Cost calculation, risk evaluation and project documentation
  • Supporting the EPC contract negotiation
  • Sub-contractor management and supporting contract negotiation
  • Monitoring and management of project timelines and budgets
  • Management of project teams in a matrix organization including engineering & construction
  • Close interaction with specialized departments and the Group
  • Regular update about the project progress & budget
  • Offer preparation, RFP, RFQ, TOR evaluation and bid preparation for PV projects.
  • Support to electrical, civil, structural and mechanical system design and construction work to ensure it meets contract obligations;
  • Ensure projects are built according to juwi standards
  • Lead and become familiar with project schedules and help deviate and adjust schedules to support on-time project requirements while keeping juwi’s quality management practices

  • Support coordination with vendors and juwi International engineers for in-field design changes.

  • Review all subcontractor QA plan & procedures and bring all plans into conformance with project requirements.

Candidate Profile

QA Manager

Objectives
 Responsible for all quality aspects of the project including giving instructions to Electrical/civil/structural QA officers, making sure that QMP is implemented, review and providing input in ITP/ITC preparations and approval process, following up the FAT process and providing an effective documentation system to capture all QA related records through the project, Pre-commissioning and finally commissioning stage.

  •  Assisting in Preparation, Review and Approval of WMS, ITP’s and ITC’s
  •  Managing the process of Review, Supervise and witness the Pre-commissioning tests
  •  Managing third party inspection and occasionally attend FAT’s

Engineering Support

Objectives
Responsible for Engineering requirements in Brisbane office and on site by providing Engineering support to Lead Project Engineer, On-site Project Engineer and Quality team on site and also some help in project delivery.

Primary responsibilities

Procurement & Contract Manager

Objectives
The successful candidate will manage all aspects of procurement/ supply chain and contract management activities for Solar PV projects in Australia.  The primary responsibilities of this role are to formulate, implement and manage the supply chain and contract management plan for Australia in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Region.  Reporting to the Managing Director, the Supply Chain & Commercial Manager will support project management and business development activities in order to secure best price, warranty conditions, contractual terms and on time delivery of all equipment and services required by the business.

Primary responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and manage procurement, supply chain and logistics strategy and process
  • Ensure cost-quality optimized equipment and services are procured for projects, on suitable delivery terms and to meet project timescales
  • Seek, engage and evaluate appropriate suppliers for project-related equipment and services
  • Manage supplier/ subcontractor deliverables and  relationships
  • Prepare and maintain supplier/ subcontractor database, including cost and product development roadmap
  • Prepare and maintain supplier/ subcontractor commercial evaluation criteria
  • Lead the negotiation of contract terms and pricing with both internal and external contacts, and prepare purchase orders, agreements and contracts related agreements; expediting; monitoring compliance and performance; enforcement of claims
  • Ensure EPCM contract risk is transferred as far as possible through back to back conditions
  • Manage and administer supply/ subcontracts
  • Manage enquiries, quotations and ordering process including tracking order fulfilment for each project
  • Set up and maintain a project budget & cost-reporting system covering all procured equipment and services projects (in conjunction with Project Manager)
  • Support the Project Manager in handling of supplier/ subcontractor variations, change orders etc.
  • Ensure the business adheres to legislation and good practice in all procurement activities
  • Plan and manage project logistics in accordance with international and local requirements
  • Clarification of market conditions relating to inter alia forex, clearing, duties, anti-dumping, credit limits, credit protection framework and ensure that associated time and cost risk is quantified
  • Monitor market for pricing trends, changes, new entrants etc.
  • Work in conjunction with the juwi APAC procurement organization to utilize global supplier frameworks and develop a longer-term procurement strate

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes

  • Commerce degree/ related qualification
  • At least 5 years of experience in  procurement, commercial, supply chain, logistics management in construction, electrical or energy infrastructure project environment
  • Proficient in negotiating, drafting and administering standard form or proprietary contracts
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written in order to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders within a matrix organization

Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: WA electrical license and/or engineering degree (Electrical or Mechanical based)
  • Experience in O&M of Power plant: 5 years electrical construction or electrical maintenance in a management role

Responsibilities:
The O&M Manager will work directly with the international O&M team and local subsidiary to manage day-to-day O&M activities, track portfolio performance, drive process improvement and liaising with customers, suppliers and subcontractors. The primary juwi site under Operation and Maintenance is a 10.6MW solar PV + 6MW battery facility connected to a 19MW diesel power station (currently the world’s largest off-grid solar PV system), located 150km North of Meekatharra, Western Australia. The O&M Manager is expected to be based in Brisbane with some visit on site as necessary

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Project Management in a service-based industry (preferred)
  • WA electrical license and/or engineering degree (Electrical or Mechanical based)
  • Understanding and/or management of Contracts
  • Basic understanding of case management systems and ability to log detailed case and maintenance data
  • Ability to leverage many internal and external resources in order to achieve project requirements

Legal Counsel

Objectives

  • Legal work on all projects in the Asia-Pacific Region, particularly in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Australia
  • Drafting and negotiation of all sorts of agreements, particularly project development agreements, PPAs, EPC contracts, supply agreements, service agreements, financial contracts, consultancy agreements, cooperation and joint venture agreements and all related agreements
  • Reviewing Project finance loan documents & shareholder agreements.
  • Coordination with, and advice on selection of, external counsel
  • Rendering legal advice to the Regional Director , Directors and the local managing directors
  • Establishment and maintaining of local companies and corporations (including drafting of minutes and shareholder resolutions)
  • Representation of juwi in front of courts, administration institutions, arbitration cases and other third parties or stakeholders, whenever such representation requires the legal support

  • at least five years of experience in an international law firm of large cap company
  • Strong legal background with commercial acumen is desirables for this role. Key KPI’s would include structuring legal contracts that delivers the value and benefits that drives the commercial success for the organization
  • Experience in advising complex, strategic projects involving multiple jurisdictions desirable.
  • Advising on M&A transaction beneficial but not required.
  • experience with projects in the (renewable) energy, construction or infrastructure industry desirable
  • experience with litigation or arbitration, particularly with SIAC (Singapore International Arbitration Center) or ICC
  • Good English communication and written skills; other languages beneficial but not required
  • further degree in business administration beneficial
